Our Primary School Direct Course 2022 – 2023 (programme code 2RJ6) is now open. Applications need to be submitted through Apply which can be accessed here:
Our Bury Schools Alliance (BSA) Primary School Direct trainees receive placement training delivered by expert teachers and well-qualified mentors in our alliance of Bury schools. This is further enhanced by attendance on a number of days at our partner University, Manchester Metropolitan University. BSA supplement this classroom placement experience with a structured continuous professional development programme throughout the year.
During the PGCE year there are three placements (across two consecutive key stages) in two Bury schools within the Alliance. Our students work alongside happy and friendly children and hardworking and ambitious staff. With full support and thorough preparation they share the responsibility for planning and teaching their own classes.
Students will complete four assessments over the year. This is in the form of two written assignments, one presentation and a portfolio of evidence. Each assessment contributes 15 M level credits towards a PGCE and all are led and marked by University tutors. Students must pass all assignments and their Teaching Experience (TE) to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS).
On completion of the programme, successful students will gain 60 credits at Masters level, which they may use towards a future continuing professional development qualification, they will be awarded a PGCE and be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status.
Please note that we close our courses on Apply once we have filled our places. It is therefore very difficult to advise when this will be as it is dependent upon so many factors. We would recommend that you apply as soon as you are certain you wish to pursue this career choice with us to prevent any disappointment.
"BTSA have been brilliant from start to finish. I’ve always felt supported and have always received answers to any questions really promptly. The training sessions have been the best bit of the course."
